Choose a display mode

Learn how to use various display modes to make edits with specialized views customized to your needs.

You have the option to display the standard video, its alpha channel, or various measurement tools. You can switch between different modes to accommodate different stages of your editing process. For example, you can use a dual-monitor setup to keep your timeline and preview windows separate.

  1. In the Source Monitor or Program Monitor, select the Settings icon.

The settings menu for the Program Monitor displays various selectable modes. Currently, the RGBA Channels submenu is expanded, showing options for Alpha, Red, Green, and Blue.
Isolate and work on specific channels like Alpha, Red, Green, or Blue for tasks like color correction and compositing.

  2. Select from the following display modes:

    • Composite Video: Displays the normal video. This is the default view of a video clip or sequence.
    • RGBA Channels: Displays transparency as a grayscale image. If your footage has an alpha channel, this setting shows the image as a grayscale alpha matte with the dark areas being transparent.
    • Multi-Camera: Displays the footage of all cameras simultaneously. You can switch between cameras to choose footage for the final sequence.
    • VR Video: When video clips have VR properties associated with them, this option is enabled. Using VR Video display, you can simulate different viewing experiences with your equirectangular video, for example, using a VR headset such as the Oculus Rift or on a desktop through YouTube or Facebook. For more information on VR video, see Support for VR workflows.
    • Comparison View: Split Program Monitor display that is useful for tasks such as matching colors between two shots or adjusting the intensity of an applied effect.
A comparison view is open, featuring two panes: Reference and Current, allowing you to compare your edits as you work.
View the effects of your edits in real-time by comparing the original and edited versions side by side.
