Merge clips in the Project panel

Last updated on Jun 23, 2025

Learn how to merge audio and video clips in the Project panel of Premiere Pro, including setting sync points and naming merged clips.

  1. Select the video clip you wish to merge audio clips to.

    Note:

You can have only one video clip in any merged clip. A video clip isn't required for a merged clip — you can merge audio-only clips with other audio-only clips.

  2. Shift-click (Windows) or Command-click (macOS) to select the audio-only clips you wish to merge with the video clip.

  3. Select Clip > Merge Clips.

  4. In the Merge Clips dialog box, select from one of the following options for the point of synchronization:

The Merge Clips dialog box is open and there are options to define a point of synchronization. There are option such as, In points, Out points, Timecode, and Clip Marker.
Quickly merge audio and video clips in the Project panel and set a sync point using Merge Clips in Premiere Pro.

    • In points: Syncs clips using their In points (like a slate clap).
    • Out points: Syncs clips using their Out points (like the end slate clap).
    • Timecode: Syncs clips using matching timecodes.
    • Clip Marker: Syncs clips using numbered markers, enabled only if all clips have them.
  5. Select OK.

The merged clip will appear in the Project panel with a name that corresponds to the video clip. If there is no video, it will default to the name of the top-most selected audio clip, following the current bin sort order. A suffix will be added to the merged clip's name, which you can rename if necessary.
