Learn about the limitations and unsupported features of working with merged clips in Adobe Premiere Pro, including editing and syncing restrictions.
Merged clips in Premiere Pro simplify the editing process while working with complex sequences. As merged clips are treated as a single clip in the sequence, you don't have to worry about keeping track of multiple clips. These clips can also be used to synchronize audio and video clips that were recorded separately. However, merged clips present some limitations as well.
The following features and commands are not supported when working with merged clips in Adobe Premiere Pro:
- Replace Footage.
- Full audio channel mapping control in the merged clip.
- Final Cut Pro XML and AAT interchange formats.
- Auto-sync using audio waveforms, free-run timecode, time-of-day timecode, AUX timecode, or separate audio timecode.
When working with merged clips, keep in mind the following important details:
- Merged clips or parts of previously merged clips cannot be used to remerge or create a new merged clip.
- Only component clips may be used to create a merged clip.
- If a particular component clip is deleted, the merged clip may be relinked.
- Audio in merged clips is limited to a single mono track, not stereo or multi-channel.
