Hardware-accelerated decoding and encoding

Learn how Adobe Premiere Pro uses your system’s GPU to speed up export and playback of H.264/H.265 videos.

Premiere Pro speeds up export and playback with hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding for H.264 and H.265 (HEVC) formats.

To take advantage of these features, your system needs a GPU that supports hardware acceleration. The support varies depending on the GPU's manufacturer: NVIDIA, Intel, AMD, or Apple silicon.

Apple silicon (M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra or newer) supports hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding for H.264 and H.265, including 10-bit 4:2:2 decoding. However, HEVC HLG 4:2:0 10-bit encoding still relies on software.

Here are the system requirements for Hardware-accelerated decoding and encoding.
