Audio channel mapping

Last updated on Jun 23, 2025

Learn how to map source and output audio channels in Adobe Premiere Pro to create a high-quality audio experience.

Audio channel mapping lets you control how audio from your clips is routed to tracks in your timeline or output devices.  This is especially useful when working with multi-channel audio, such as surround sound or recordings from multi-track devices.

When you import a clip with multiple audio channels, Premiere Pro automatically assigns each channel to its own track in the timeline. However, you can customize this mapping to suit your editing needs.

  1. Right-click the audio in the Project panel and select Modify > Audio Channels.

  2. In the Modify Clip dialog, use the Audio Channels tab to change the mapping.

Use the Modify Clip dialog to remap audio channels and control how stereo or multi-channel media is routed to your timeline tracks.

  3. In the Media Source Channel, check the boxes under each clip channel to enable or disable the desired channels, and then select OK to apply the changes.
