Consolidate and archive projects

Last updated on Jul 2, 2025

Consolidate and archive your Adobe Premiere Pro project, ensuring all necessary media is organized and stored efficiently.

The Project Manager lets you effectively manage media and projects, especially large projects with many clips and different media formats. You can easily archive large projects by transcoding all relevant files in projects and sequences into an intermediate or mezzanine codec.

The Project Manager provides several options to consolidate relevant files into a mezzanine codec based on user-defined preferences. While consolidating the files, the Project Manager copies only portions of source footage used in sequences and automatically creates a trimmed project.

  1. Select File > Project Manager.

  2. In the Project Manager window, under the Sequence section, check the boxes next to the sequences you wish to include. To select all, hold Shift and click any checkbox.

  3. Select Consolidate and Transcode to compile the used media into a single codec, facilitating easier archiving.

Consolidate and archive your project by selecting sequences, configuring settings, and saving it.

  4. You can set the following consolidation options:

    • Source: Decide whether to match settings based on the Sequence, Individual Clips, or a specific Preset.
    • Format: Select the desired format, such as MXF OP1a or QuickTime.
    • Preset: Choose an appropriate preset corresponding to the selected format.
  5. Select the following additional settings:

    • Exclude Unused Clips: Enable this to omit media not utilized in the selected sequences.
    • Include Handles: Specify the number of extra frames to retain before the In point and after the Out point of each clip (0 to 999 frames).
    • Rename Media Files to Match Clip Names: Select this to rename copied media files to align with clip names in the project.
  6. Select Browse to choose the location where the consolidated project will be saved. Review the Disk Space estimate to ensure sufficient storage, then select OK to initiate the consolidation and archiving process.
