Enable Hardware Encoding in Premiere Pro

Learn how to enable hardware encoding in Premiere Pro to speed up video exports and improve overall performance.

  1. Launch Premiere Pro.

  2. Open your project and select the correct sequence.

  3. Go to File > Export > Media.

    Optionally, select a relevant export preset that matches your output requirements.

  4. Select Export tab.

  5. Set the Format option to H.264

  6. Select Video.

  7. Go to the Encoding Settings panel.

  8. Set the Performance option to Hardware Encoding.

  9. Select Export.

Premiere Pro utilizes your hardware to accelerate video exports and enhance overall performance.

Supported codec platforms

Encode your videos using H.264/AVC (8-bit) or HEVC 4:2:0 (8-bit and 10-bit). If you’re running a 10th-generation or newer Intel® Core™ processor, you can increase the HEVC resolution to 8192x8192, otherwise, limit it to 4096x4096.

Recommended Intel driver and processor versions

Use Intel® Core™ processors from the 9th to the 12th generation for HEVC 4:2:0 10-bit hardware encoding. For more information, check Intel documentation.
