The Generative Extend tool, powered by Adobe Firefly, lets editors add those extra few frames to tell their story their way. Just click and drag to seamlessly add a few more frames to the beginning or end of a video or audio clip – to hold on to a character reaction for an extra beat, create a smoother transition, extend background sounds, or hide an unwanted camera movement. An internet connection is required to access Generative Extend as it utilizes a cloud AI model.

  1. Identify a clip in your sequence you’d like to extend. Video clips should be at least 2 seconds long, while audio clips must have a minimum duration of at least 3 seconds.

  2. Select the Generative Extend Tool in the Toolbar.

  3. Select and drag the edge of a video or audio clip to the desired length.

The Timeline panel is open with a clip selected. The Generative Expand feature is used to add additional frames using Generative Extend. The extended section where the new video is getting generated has a loading icon indicating that the clip is being generated.
Generative Extend will create additional frames and insert them into your sequence.

  4. The AI-generated frames are labeled. If you're not satisfied with the initial extension, right-click on the AI-generated label and select Regenerate for a new variation.

  5. If you want to replace the AI-generated frames with original media at any point, right-click on the AI-generated label and select Revert to Original. You can also unlink the audio and video and revert either of them to the original media if the original media exists in the project.

Note:

Video clips can be extended up to 2 seconds, while audio can be extended up to 10 seconds.
