Processor, memory, and GPU recommendations

Last updated on Jun 24, 2025

Understand the recommended processor, memory, and GPU specs to enhance performance and ensure workflow compatibility.

Refer to the table and choose the processor, memory, and GPU setup for reliable and fast Premiere Pro performance.

Component

Recommended specification

Processor

  • CPU with a minimum clock speed of 3.2 GHz.
  • A processor with at least eight cores, as it allows Premiere Pro to run at 93–98% efficiency.
  • An Intel Core i7 or i9, an AMD equivalent, or an Apple M2 processor.
  • Intel Core i7/i9 or the latest mobile Xeon processors offer Quick Sync technology, accelerating the decoding or playback of H.264 and HEVC.
  • Desktop Intel Xeon CPUs without Quick Sync for high-end workflows with RED, Sony Venice, ARRI, or XDCam HD formats.

Memory

  • For Windows or Intel-based Mac systems, 32 GB RAM or more.
  • For Apple M2 systems, 16 GB of shared memory (currently the maximum available).

Graphics

  • GPU with at least 4 GB of memory (VRAM).
Multiple GPUs, including eGPUs, speed up export and rendering in Premiere Pro.
  • For Apple M2 systems, a minimum of 16 GB of Unified Memory is required for video editing.
Outdated graphics drivers often cause performance issues, so always keep your GPU drivers up to date, including Intel integrated ones.
