Learn how to fade in a video clip or start it by fading up from black at the beginning.

Open the Effects panel, search for the Dissolve effects, then drag and drop the chosen effect onto the beginning of the clip to apply it.

Alternatively, you can also go to Effect Controls panel, use the Opacity property of the clip and add keyframes to start at 0 and increase to 100%.
Select the stopwatch icon next to Opacity to activate keyframing, then adjust the opacity values to animate the clip.
