Markers are essential tools in Adobe Premiere Pro that help you identify important points in time and organize your video editing workflow.

Types of markers

There are several types of markers in Premiere Pro:

  • Comment Marker: Add notes or comments about specific parts of your timeline.
  • Chapter Marker: Create navigation points for viewers in your finished video.
  • Segmentation Marker: Define ranges in your video for automated workflows (such as identifying commercial breaks).
  • Web Link: Add URLs to provide additional information about selected parts of your clip.
  • Flash Cue Point: Specialized type of marker that allow you to embed timed metadata within your video. These markers are designed to be accessed via ActionScript in Adobe Animate projects.

Navigate the Markers panel

The Markers panel (Window > Markers) allows you to view and manage all markers in an open clip or sequence. Double-click a marker to view its properties in detail.

The Markers panel displays all the markers in your project. Double-click a marker to edit or view marker details.

Understand markers display in the Markers panel

If you select two or more track items with markers in the timeline, all their markers will appear together in the Markers panel. You can also delete multiple selected markers simultaneously from this panel.

The Markers panel always displays the sequence timecode when a track item with markers is selected. However, if you load a clip with markers into the Source Monitor, the panel will show the source timecode instead.

Additionally, new interface indicators have been added to the Markers panel to highlight where Source or Sequence In and Out points are placed among the displayed markers.
