Export a still frame

Last updated on Jun 23, 2025

Learn to capture a still image or freeze frame from a movie clip.

Before you begin

Add a clip to your sequence and identify the frame you want to export as an image.
The Export Frame icon isn’t visible by default. You can add it from the Button Editor in the Monitor panel.

  1. Open your project in Premiere Pro.

  2. Move the playhead to the specific frame in a clip or sequence you want to export.

  3. Select the Export Frame icon in the Source Monitor or Program Monitor.

  4. Enter a name, select an image format, and select a destination folder in the Export Frame dialog.

You can also keep the defaults.

  5. Select Import into project checkbox to import the frame back into your project.

  6. Select OK to export the still frame.
Premiere Pro saves the still frame to your disk, adds it to your project, and highlights it in Lavender. It also adds the frame's timecode to the file name. For example, ClipName.00_14_23_00.Still001.jpg.

  7. Select the still frame and move it onto your editing timeline or sequence.
