Set Premiere Pro shortcuts to match the ones you already use in other apps. This saves time and makes switching between programs harmonious, keeping your workflow smooth and familiar.

Premiere Pro offers built-in shortcut sets (like those from other Adobe apps or popular software). You can select them from the Set menu > Keyboard Customization dialog box.

  1. Open the Keyboard Shortcuts menu in Premiere Pro:

    • On Windows, go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.
    • On macOS, go to Premiere Pro > Keyboard Shortcuts.
  2. Select a panel or Application in the Commands dropdown menu.

    • Application: Shows menu bar commands organized by category.
    • Panels: Lists commands for panels and menus.
  3. Find the command in the Command column that you want to customize.

  4. Select the shortcut field for the command and type your desired shortcut.

A warning will appear if the shortcut is already in use.

  5. Resolve conflicting shortcuts (if any):

    • To revert the shortcut to its original command, select Undo.
    • To remove the shortcut, select Clear.
  6. Select Save As, name your custom key set, and select Save to save your custom key set once you’ve assigned all desired shortcuts.

The operating system reserves some shortcuts, and you cannot reassign them to Premiere Pro. Avoid using the numeric keypad’s plus (+) and minus (-) keys, as they are needed to enter relative timecode values. However, you can use the minus () key on the main keyboard.
