Before you begin

Import your video clips into a Premiere Pro project and add the clips you want to modify to the timeline.

  1. Select one or more clips in the Timeline panel.

  2. Select Clip > Speed/Duration from the menu bar. Alternatively, right-click the selected clip(s) and select Speed/Duration.

The Clip speed/duration dialog box displays options to increase or decrease the speed and duration of your clip.
Tweak the options in the Clip speed/duration dialog box to increase or decrease speed and duration of your selected clip.

  3. In the Clip speed/duration dialog box:

    • Enter a percentage in the Speed field to change playback speed. (100% is normal speed, lower values slow down, higher values speed up)
    • Select Reverse speed to play the clip backwards.
    • Select Maintain audio pitch to preserve the original audio pitch.
    • Select Ripple Edit (shift trailing clips) to automatically adjust the position of subsequent clips in the timeline.
  4. To change the duration without affecting speed or vice versa, toggle so that it shows a broken link.

  5. Select a Time Interpolation option:

    • Frame Sampling (fastest)
    • Frame Blending
    • Optical Flow (highest quality for slow motion)
  6. Select OK.

Play back the video on the Program Monitor to see the changes you have made to the speed and duration of the clip.
