General preferences

Explore the General preferences in Adobe Premiere Pro to better understand and customize your editing environment.

In the General section of the Preferences dialog box, you can customize settings for several things, from transition duration to tool tips, like the ones mentioned here.

General panel of the Preference dialog box displays various options for customizing Premiere Pro such as At Startup, When Opening a Project, Bins, and many more.
Set default General preferences for startup behavior, project opening, bin and project shortcuts, as well as toggling features like the Event Indicator, Tool Tips, and other user interface elements.

At Startup

You can choose to display start screen of Premiere Pro or display the files that you most recently opened.

When Opening a Project

Specify whether you want to see the Start screen or the Open dialog when opening a project.

Bins

Bin behavior when double-clicking a bin or double-clicking with the following keys can be controlled in the Bins preference:

  • Ctrl (Windows) or Command (macOS)
  • Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS)

Projects

Project behavior when double-clicking a project or holding the Alt key while clicking a project.

Show Event Indicator

To turn off the event notification pop-up window that appears in the lower right-corner of the user interface, deselect this preference.

Show Tool Tips

Let’s you turn tool tips on or off.

Show Project Load Error dialog

Select this checkbox to view the Project Load Error dialog when facing a project loading issue.

Show Workspace Reset Warning dialog on double click

Select this checkbox to view the Workspace Reset Warning dialog when you double-click.
