Learn to quickly export video frames as still images without using Adobe Media Encoder.

How to quickly export a frame or thumbnail

Before you begin

The Export Frame icon isn’t visible by default. You can add it from the Button Editor in the Monitor panel.

  1. Open your project in Premiere Pro.

  2. Access the clip or sequence you want to use from the Timeline.

  3. Move the playhead to the specific frame you wish to export.

  4. Select the Export Frame icon in the Source Monitor or Program Monitor.

  5. Enter a name, select an image format, and select a destination folder in the Export Frame dialog.

You can also keep the defaults.

  6. Select Import into project checkbox to import the image back into your project.

  7. Select OK to export the still image.

By default, Premiere Pro sets the color bit depth of the exported frame to the color bit depth of the source clip or sequence. It automatically reimports the still image into your project.

Note:

For high-quality stills with format options like DPX, TIFF, TRG, and PNG, export the frame in Export mode (File menu > Export > Media) and uncheck Export As Sequence to save a single frame.
