Export a project as a Final Cut Pro XML file

Last updated on Jun 24, 2025

Export your Premiere Pro project as a Final Cut Pro XML file for use in Final Cut Pro 7, compatible tools, or share with other editing systems.

Before you begin

Ensure your project is saved and all media is linked.
Only a few Premiere Pro effects and features will transfer to Final Cut Pro.

  1. Open your project in Premiere Pro.

  2. Select File > Export > Final Cut Pro XML.

  3. Choose a location and filename in the Save Converted Sequence As – Final Cut Pro XML window.

  4. Select Save to export the sequence as an XML file.

  5. Check the FCP Translation Results log file for conversion issues in the exact location.

  6. Open this XML file in Final Cut Pro 7 or earlier, or use a third-party tool like XtoCC to open it in Final Cut Pro X.

Merged clips are converted to nested sequences in Final Cut Pro. Audio pan, gain, and level changes may not transfer accurately. Some complex effects and transitions might not translate exactly.
