Last updated on Jun 23, 2025

Learn how to transfer assets from file-based media in Adobe Premiere Pro by copying media files along with the project to maintain a seamless workflow.

It’s possible to edit assets residing on file-based media, such as P2 cards, XDCAM cartridges, SxS cards, or DVDs. For best performance:

  • Transfer files from their file-based media to a local hard disk.
  • Using File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS), transfer files from file-based acquisition media.
  • Import the files on the hard disk into Premiere Pro projects.
Tip:

When transferring assets from file-based media, always copy the entire folder with all subfolders to preserve the original structure.

  1. Choose File > Project Manager.

  2. In the Project Manager window, under the Sequence section, check the boxes next to the sequences you wish to include. To select all, hold Shift and select any checkbox.

  3. Select Collect Files and Copy to New Location to gather all assets into one place.

  4. Under Destination Path, choose a folder where you want the files saved.

  5. When you have selected your preferences, select OK to create a copy of the source file in a new location.
